1218 - 1477
Rudolf I.
King Rudolf I. von Habsburg was the first Habsburg on the throne of the Holy Roman Empire.
Era II.
1478 - 1607
Karl V.
Emperor Karl V. ruled over territories in Europe and America. An empire where the sun never sets. Plus Ultra (lat. "on and on")
Era III.
1608 - 1737
Emperor Karl VI
Emperor Karl VI. secured the countries of Europe through the "Pragmatic Sanction", which united the Habsburg Empire as an overall entity for the first time.
Maria Theresia
Empress Maria Theresa introduced compulsory education and regulated schooling (6.12.1774). She implemented reforms, some of which are still valid today. She gave birth to 16 children and was and is called the Mother of Europe. The Theresian Military Academy was founded under Maria Theresa on 14 December 1751 and is the oldest active military academy in the world that is continuously dedicated to officer training.
Franz Stephan I. von Lothringen
Emperor Franz Stephan I. of Lothringen founded the House of Habsburg-Lothringen by marrying Maria Theresa. He was economically very successful for Austria.
Era IV.
1738 - 1790
Leopold II.
Emperor Leopold II as Grand Duke of Tuscany brought about reforms, tax equality, and he was the first country in the world to abolish the death penalty. In 1790, Leopold ascended the imperial throne.
Ferdinand III.
Grand Duke Ferdinand III carried out a reform programme in Tuscany in the spirit of the Enlightenment that caused a sensation throughout Europe.
Era V.
1791 - 1866
Leopold II. (Toskana)
Grand Duke Leopold II championed the environment in Tuscany, opened up the country with infrastructure, initiated the judicial and educational reform (1838 - 1840) at the universities, which achieved world fame.
Leopold Salvator
Archduke Leopold Salvator – Colonel General of the Austrian Artillery, as a technician he developed patents for airship travel and military motorisation, he wrote the world's first patent for all-wheel and chain drive.

1887 - today
